What to do when your leader does not appear
Thursday, 13 October 2022
The New South Wales Bar Association's New Barristers Committee is proud to host a new CPD webinar on ‘What to do when your leader does not appear’ on Thursday, 13 October 2022 at 5 pm.
The panel, including Geoffrey Watson SC, Justin Hogan-Doran SC and Anna Garcia, will join chair Nicholas Bentley to discuss what you are meant to do when your leader is unable to appear in court.
What do you do when, like what happened to Justin Hogan-Doran SC, you are in the High Court a year after the Bar Course and your leader cannot appear? Does it change if you are in Supreme Court, Land and Environment Court or District Court? Are you always meant to be ready to proceed? Should you seek an adjournment? Should you try to proceed with part of the case to minimise the time and costs thrown away?
The panellist will share their own experiences of having to unexpectantly appear unled and they will provide advice on what you should do depending on the circumstances. They will also answer questions posed by the junior bar.
This is a must watch CPD for the junior bar that will provide insight into how you should prepare your case when being led and the unexpected happens.
