Advocacy in the Court of Criminal Appeal

The New South Wales Bar Association's Education Committee is excited to present a webinar titled "Advocacy in the Court of Criminal Appeal" at 5.15 pm on Wednesday 14 October 2020.  

The purpose of this interactive webinar is to discuss the effective preparation and presentation of appeals to the Court of Criminal Appeal.

Moderator:

Speakers:

  • Justice Robert Beech-Jones, Supreme Court of NSW. 
  • Hament Dhanji SC, Forbes Chambers
  • Sally Dowling SC, Wardell Chambers

Our speakers and moderator, experienced appeal judges and experienced appellate Senior Counsel, will discuss perspectives from the Bar and Bench on:

  • Mastering an appellate brief
  • Drafting grounds of appeal
  • Preparation of written submissions
  • Preparation and presentation of oral argument
  • Perspectives from the Bench on advocacy and what appellate judges find most helpful (and unhelpful) from Counsel arguing appeals

The panel welcomes questions at the time of registration or via email to sally.dowling@wardellchambers.com.au. Questions should be submitted by 5 pm Monday 12 October.
