Kennon and the Relevance of Family Violence in Family Law Property Matters
Neil Jackson, Frederick Jordan Chambers, will explore issues of domestic violence and how these are relevant to Family Law property matters. It will analyse the decision of the Full Court in Kennon v Kennon [1997] FamCA 27, the authorities that followed it, as well as the amending legislation codifying principles stated in Kennon, which is proposed to be enacted this year by the Commonwealth Parliament. Will the codification of the principles held in Kennon simply impact issues of family violence in property disputes, or will it have broader implications?
