Beware the Ides of March: the mock trial of Brutus & Ors

Distractions

On 15 March 44BC Julius Caesar was assassinated by Marcus Brutus, Cassius and several other senators. Despite being declared enemies of the state, neither Brutus nor Cassius stood trial, instead committing suicide following their defeat at the Battle of Philippi.

In 2016 a UK charity called Classics for All held a mock trial of the assassins of Julius Caesar in the UK Supreme Court. Lord Hughes presided, with William Boyce QC appearing for the "Imperial Guard Prosecution Service" and Anthony Peto QC and Maya Lester QC for the defence.
