Interactive Webinar
The legal profession and the Australian judicial system, like many others, have been forever altered by the COVID-19 pandemic. Computer technology has played a more significant role in courts than ever before, many personal appearances have been replaced by video conferencing, and social distancing has removed much of the cut and thrust of the courtroom. As restrictions ease and in-person appearances resume, it remains that remote hearings will continue to be an important and growing part of the system. This 'new normal' of digital communication comes with its own and different challenges, but there are proven ways to do it successfully.
On Wednesday, 17th June, from 5.30 pm - 7.30 pm, the NSW Bar Association will host special two-hour interactive Online Advocacy Webinar. The webinar will be presented by the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA). NIDA has extensive experience in corporate training and is the Australian leader in training for on-screen presentation.
The free interactive seminar has been designed to address the particular challenges faced by barristers when advocating online. The presenters will discuss and develop strategies to improve a barrister's online presence, refine digital communication skills and increase the participants' awareness of on-screen dynamics.
Much like an online hearing, participants will require an adequate camera, audio and internet set-up; sufficient private space with a non-identifiable background and a little standing room as there will be some exercises that will require participants to stand and move around.
It is hoped that after this initial pilot, the Association will continue to work with NIDA to develop the content and techniques further, upskill barristers, and maintain the competitive edge of advocacy at the Bar. Further workshops would be run at a nominal charge.

*Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. The seminar will NOT be recorded. Participants must be willing to provide feedback after the event.
