Additional Volunteers Sought: Online Open Day for Female Law Students 2020

30/07/2020

Due to unprecedented demand, the New South Wales Bar Association is seeking additional volunteer barristers to assist with its Online Open Day for Female Law Students between 9:20am and 10:30am on Tuesday 4 August 2020. We have been overwhelmed with the response from students and members received thus far, but would be grateful for any additional assistance.

Volunteers are needed to “meet” with groups of students virtually in Zoom “break out” sessions to answer queries the students may have about what a career at the Bar is really like. In person attendance or physical presence in chambers is not required, as volunteer barristers will be logging in remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Open Day is hosted by the Association’s Diversity and Equality Committee and Women Barristers Forum. The purpose of the Open Day is to demystify the Bar and encourage female law students to consider coming to the Bar themselves.

Female law students in their penultimate and final years of study will have unprecedented access to successful women barristers and judges and an opportunity to gain insight into the life of a barrister.

If you are available to volunteer your time, or would like any further information, please email the Association’s Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Elizabeth Pearson, via dppa@nswbar.asn.au.

Thank you to all members who have already volunteered – you will shortly receive an information pack with final details ahead of Tuesday.

If you no longer wish to receive In Brief, please notify the Bar Association's
