Sunil Chandra De Silva, a former Crown Prosecutor, passed away in Gosford on 28 February 2021.

Sunil was admitted in April 1992 and was attached to the office of the DPP.

He was appointed as a Crown Prosecutor in 1996, joining the NSW Bar in January 1997, and he retired in 2013.

Sunil took his oaths as an advocate of the Supreme Court of Ceylon in 1963, and served in the Attorney General's Department as a Crown Counsel for 25 years.

Sunil was a Delegate appointed by the Sri Lankan Government to the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva from 1983 until he migrated to Sydney in 1992. He also attended the Sub Commission on the Protection and Promotion of Human rights as a delegate and later as Head of the Sri Lanka Delegation.

He was appointed the 19th Attorney General of Sri Lanka in 1988 and was sworn in as a President's Counsel the same year. Sunil served in this position until his early retirement in 1992, when he migrated to Sydney Australia.

He completed 50 years as a legal practitioner in 2013 and celebrated this milestone in Sydney.
