A national response to family, domestic and sexual violence

The Law Council of Australia has welcomed the findings of a report by the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs inquiry into family, domestic and sexual violence. Law Council President Jacoba Brasch QC said a uniform, national definition and shared principles would reduce confusion between jurisdictions and improve the collection of data. Brasch QC also welcomed the report's recommendations for additional funding to legal assistance and social workers, but expressed disappointment at ongoing, inadequate funding for the family law courts.
