Federal Budget 2021-22 - outcomes of interest to the Legal Profession

12/05/2021

The Law Council of Australia has released a detailed summary outlining the outcomes of interest to the legal profession from last night’s 2021-2022 Federal Budget announcements. The summary is available here. One of the major initiatives noted in the Law Council's summary is an increase in overall total funding for the Federal Courts, particularly in the area of family law. Increased funding for Federal Courts was a major focus of the Law Council in its 2021-22 Pre-Budget submission, and advocated by the New South Wales Bar Association in its own Pre-Budget submission to the Federal Treasury.

The Law Council has also today published separate media releases welcoming budget initiatives relating to legal services supporting women and those experiencing mental health issues, investment in tackling sexual harassment and domestic and family violence, as well as its release concerning funding of the Federal Courts.
