President's Message - new Executive Director of the New South Wales Bar Association
14/05/2021

As I have previously advised members, Greg Tolhurst will be leaving the role of Executive Director of the NSW Bar Association in June. He has been a real asset to the Bar Association and we wish him well in his future endeavours.
I am pleased to announce today that the Association has appointed Andreas Heger to fill this role. Andreas will commence from 7 June 2021.
Andreas joins us from nine years at the NSW Department of Communities & Justice, where he has worked in strategy, policy and law reform for the Justice system, most recently as Director, Criminal Justice System and Director, Crime Policy.
Andreas has a LLB from Sydney University and a Bachelor of Civil Laws from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. He is a published novelist, a former national level para rowing athlete, a partner and a father of three boys. Andreas is vision impaired – he is legally blind.
Andreas is very excited to take on the role, in particular building on recent work to improve diversity and inclusion at the Bar, putting customer service at the heart of the Association, and working with the extremely talented people in the Association, the Council and Committees to support the Bar’s role as a leading civil society organisation that protects and promotes fundamental rights and freedoms and the rule of law.
