Ways that human rights can assist in your practice at the Bar

Human rights are embedded in the legal system but are sometimes a forgotten tool.

This session will discuss ways that you can use human rights in the way you practise. We will consider the use of human rights in the practice of commercial law, corporate law/regulatory matters, public/administrative law, constitutional law, criminal law and coronial inquests.

Join this session, which will be chaired by the former co-chair of the New South Wales Bar Association’s Human Rights Committee Justice Angus Stewart of the Federal Court. The panel of speakers include:

  • Kristina Stern SC, who will discuss the use of human rights in commercial and corporate law/regulatory matters

  • Craig Lenehan SC, who will discuss the use of human rights in administrative law and constitutional law

  • Simeon Beckett, who will discuss the principles of relevant to interpreting legislation consistent with human rights obligations

  • Peggy Dwyer, who will discuss the use of human rights in criminal law and coronial inquests
