Bar FC unlucky against BNP FC

10/06/2021

Bar FC had a close match on Thursday 10 June in the Domain Soccer League against the team in second place, BNP FC, in very cold and wet conditions in the Domain. Bar FC were keen to build on their win of last week and progress further up the competition ladder.

BNP FC opened the scoring after only two minutes from kick off, despite a valiant dive from goalkeeper Harris to try and stop the goal. Four minutes later Harris saves a certain goal from being scored.

Our midfield with Olson, Connolly and two new players on debut, Spiers and the aptly named Pace, co-ordinate well and block numerous incursion attempts by BNP FC.

At the eight minute mark, Bar FC is on the attack and Pace from the midfield launches a powerful deep kick straight to our striker, Di Michiel, who slams the ball past a startled BNP FC keeper to draw the score level at 1-1.

BNP FC then turn up the heat on Bar FC, with our back line being up to the test, with a great defensive line of Philips, Griscti, Kane and Woods (with Philips preventing a certain goal by deflecting a shot from right in front). Just before half time, BNP FC kick the ball from the far left side of the field to just in front of our goals, and in the ensuing melee, score a very lucky goal. At half time it is 2-1 in favour of BNP FC.

The second half commences, and Bar FC’s defensive line is under a sustained attack, with a great save by goalkeeper Harris, and then twice in as many minutes, Griscti prevents two BNP FC goals from being scored. Bar FC then gets the ball down to our forwards Morrison and Di Michiel, and Di Michiel shoots at the goals and narrowly misses.

To Bar FC’s credit, we hold BNP FC scoreless in the second half, and the end result is a close fought BNP FC win with a score of 2-1. Although disappointed, to have such a close loss to the team coming second on the ladder, was a good effort for Bar FC.

Our next game is Wednesday 16 June 2021 at 12.30 p.m. against the top of the table team Factset Fundamentals FC, above the Domain Car Park. Please come join us.
