International arbitration advocacy masterclass

16/09/2025

Tuesday, 14 October – In person, 2.30-4.00pm

In this second seminar hosted by the NSW Bar Association as part of ACICA's Australian Arbitration Week, join some of the top advocates in international arbitration and at the NSW Bar as they share their tools of the trade. In the format of an open masterclass, the practitioners will provide tips on persuading arbitral tribunals through the various stages of advocacy, including effective opening presentations, cross-examining lay witnesses, examining expert witnesses in a conclave and closing argument. For barristers, it is a chance to brush up on your advocacy skills and learn some key differences between the approach to advocacy in international arbitration. For solicitors and in-house counsel, it will provide invaluable tips for conducting your own advocacy. And for everyone, it will be nothing short of entertaining to watch some of the best at the Bar cross-examining some difficult witnesses.

Please join moderator Jesse Kennedy (Eleven Wentworth), Noel Hutley SC (5th Floor St James Hall), Duncan Miller SC (7 Wentworth Selborne), James Hutton SC (Eleven Wentworth), Elisa Holmes SC (Eleven Wentworth), Amy Munro SC (Omnia Chambers), Karen Petch (New Chambers) and Katie Sutton (Greenway Chambers).
