Sports Law Conference and Tri State Championship
15/09/2025

On Saturday 13 September 2025 the annual Sports Law Conference and Tri State Championship was held in Sydney.
Maurice Byers Chambers generously hosted barristers from Victoria and Queensland who had travelled interstate to attend the conference and compete in the annual competition that is 17 years strong. Thomas Liu and Anais d’Arville gave excellent presentations at the conference, with Bar FC also grateful for the insightful presentation into the National Sports Tribunal by Michelle Gallen, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tribunal.
Afterwards under clear blue skies, Bar FC met their interstate counterparts to compete for the silverware. As current holders of the trophies, Bar FC were keen to retain the honours and fielded a strong squad to do so. In the usual spirit of the competition, Bar FC lent the travelling teams some players to ensure a full team of 11 played in each game. Some silky football was played with the result being Bar FC emerging victorious beating Victoria 4-3 and the Queenslanders 1-0.
The referees (Anthony Lo Surdo SC; Graham Turnbull SC DCJ and David Patch) awarded the player of the match award from NSW in the QLD game to Elizabeth Lambert and in the Vic. game to Ajay Sivanathan.
Many thanks to all who made the day a wonderful experience for all and especially to the President of the Bar Association, Dominic Toomey SC who took time out of his busy schedule to attend the award ceremony and present the winning trophies.
