Vale: Eoin James Johnston 1946–2025

Eoin Johnston passed away on 23 October 2025. He left school aged 15 and worked as a tiler before travelling to North America and Africa working as an underground blaster, hard rock miner and in seismic oil exploration. Eoin earned his law degree via correspondence through the University of Sydney and was called to the Bar in 1997 at the age of 51. Eoin practised at Lismore Chambers and Richmond Chambers on the Far North Coast of New South Wales until his retirement in 2021. He was also a Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Ballina Shire Council, held six life memberships in rugby union, water polo, swimming and surf lifesaving clubs, and recently achieved 60 years patrolling service with NSW Surf Lifesaving. Eoin is survived by his wife, Christine, and children, Thomas, Elizabeth and William.
