The Honourable Ian Vitaly Gzell AM KC, former judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, passed away on 22 December 2022. He was admitted to practise at the Bar in December 1965 and was appointed to the Bench in 2002. He formally retired in 2013.

Mr Gzell was awarded the honour of Member of the Order of Australia in 2016 for significant service to the judiciary, in estate and trust law, to the advancement of professional development, and to the performing arts.
