2023 World Day of Social Justice

20 February marks the United Nations World Day of Social Justice. This year’s theme, ‘Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunity for Social Justice’, focuses on strengthening global solidarity and re-building trust in government. It provides a platform to discuss addressing inequality, conflict and the effectiveness of organisations that protect the rights of workers, matters which are particularly relevant in light of the aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The International Labour Organisation (ILO) adopted the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization in 2008, to strengthen the UN’s commitment to social justice. 2009 was the first year the World Day for Social Justice was formally observed.
