IAWJ receives Bolch Rule of Law Award from Duke University

On 1 March 2023, the Afghan Women Judges Support Committee of the International Association of Women Judges was presented with the Bolch Rule of Law Award by Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Judge Robyn Tupman of the District Court of NSW attended Duke University to accept the award on behalf of the Committee with four others of the seven person committee from all over the world.

Judge Tupman (Secretary/Treasurer of the IAWJ) was a founding member of the Committee responsible for liaising with Afghan Women Judges after Kabul fell to the Taliban on 15 August 2021 and then assisting to evacuate around 200 Afghan Women Judges and their families to Australia and all over the world from that time which is a continuing effort with only 54 Women Judges now remaining in Afghanistan.

There are now 17 Afghan Women Judges and their families living in Australia thanks to the work of this committee and its many partners and supporters.
