Ramadan

22/03/2023

This evening marks the beginning of Ramadan, being the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and the most sacred in Islamic culture. Ramadan begins and ends with the appearance of the crescent moon. It is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.

According to Islamic tradition, it was during Ramadan that God revealed to the Prophet Muhammad the Qurʾān, Islam’s holy book, “as a guidance for the people.”

Lasting for 30 days, Ramadan will end this year on 21 April 2023, when Muslims then celebrate one of their major holidays, Eid al-Fitr, or the “Festival of the Breaking of the Fast.”
