IDAHOBIT – 17 May 2023
17/05/2023

The Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination, also known as the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersex Discrimination and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is held annually on May 17. It aims to raise awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights violations worldwide.
The date was chosen to commemorate the decision to remove homosexuality from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization in 1990.
In 2018, 68% of LGBTQI employees in Australia were not out to everyone at work, and 35% of LGBTQI Australians had experienced verbal abuse in the past 12 months.
The Bar Association is committed to supporting a Bar that reflects and is inclusive of the diverse composition of Australia’s society, which includes people from the LGBTQI communities.
