22/05/2023

Last year, the New South Wales Bar Association’s Media and Information Law and Technology (MILT) Committee partnered with the Sydney University Law Society (SULS) to jointly host the second intervarsity Law Students’ Blog Competition. Building on the success of the inaugural competition in 2020, the 2022 Competition asked students to work in small teams to compose a blog post responding to the question: ‘Could an artificially intelligent device practise as a barrister in New South Wales?’

A virtual awards ceremony was held on 8 December 2022 to announce the winners of the Competition. The judging panel were impressed by the high standard of entries, each of which demonstrated originality and creativity in engagement and analysis. The Association wishes to congratulate the 2022 winners:

1st Place: Jarrod Li, Stephanie Tong and Bob Chen, University of New South Wales for their piece here.

Equal 2nd Place:

  • Jack Mars and Riley Vaughan, University of Sydney for their piece here.

  • Anson Lee and Janika Fernando, University of Sydney, for their piece here.

The Association would also like to thank the members of the judging panel, including Angela Bowne SC and Dr Carolyn McKay who chaired the awards ceremony, and Ariana Haghighi, Publications Director at SULS, for their efforts in facilitating such a successful Competition.
