Diversity
Nowruz (also spelt Novruz, Navruz, Nooruz, Nevruz, Nauryz) or New Day is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, which usually occurs on 21 March. Over 300 million people celebrate Nowruz as the beginning of the new year, marking the first day of spring and the renewal of nature. The tradition of celebrating Nowruz spans back over 3,000 years in the Balkans, the Black Sea Basin, the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East and other regions. While Nowruz is celebrated differently across many cultures, for many, it is a time for renewal and celebration with family and friends.
International Nowruz Day was proclaimed by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 64/253 (2010).
