President's Message

06/06/2025

The NSW Bar Association welcomes the decision of the NSW Legislative Council to refer the Workers Compensation Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 to the Public Accountability and Works Committee for a more substantive inquiry.

The Association has strongly opposed this Bill, which will abolish substantial rights for those who suffer a psychological injury at work. The Association provided submissions to the Standing Committee on Law and Justice’s inquiry into the Exposure Draft of the Bill, appeared before a hearing of that inquiry, wrote to and met with Members of Parliament and issued multiple media statements.

Significant law reform of this kind requires a genuine and considered conversation with the community. That’s why the Association has consistently called for a thorough consultation process and a substantive review of the Bill.

The Association looks forward to engaging meaningfully with the critical work of the Public Accountability and Works Committee through submissions and appearances before the Committee.
