Burnout at the Bar and Moral Injury

22/07/2025

Tuesday, 12 August - In person - 5-6pm

This CPD will focus on two critical issues which all barristers should be aware of for their own wellbeing - Burnout at the Bar and Moral Injury. Relevant to all barristers, no matter their practice area.

India Eastlake is from the United Kingdom and will discuss the recent research she has undertaken on the UK Bar which specifically focused on the role of psychological capital in mitigating burnout in barristers.

Anna Fischer is the Wellbeing Manager at the Law Society of NSW and is also a trauma specialist with a dual background in psychology and law. At this event, Anna will address "Moral Injury," a form of psychological injury that is adjacent to trauma and which presents a critical issue for the legal profession. Anna will define Moral Injury and differentiate it from Vicarious Trauma and PTSD, cover why and how it shows up throughout legal practice, and lay a practical framework for how to prevent, identify and manage it in your own life.
