Tomorrow: International Day of the World’s Indigenous People
08/08/2025

Each year, 9 August is observed as International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. The day marks the date of the inaugural session of the Working Group on Indigenous Populations in 1982.The day recognises and honours the achievements of Indigenous Peoples across the globe and celebrates the richness of Indigenous cultures, traditions and heritage. This year’s theme is Indigenous Peoples and AI: Defending Rights, Shaping Futures, which reminds the international community that Indigenous Peoples’ rights, including their rights to self-determination, lands, territories, and resources, languages, as well as the right to free, prior, and informed consent (FPIC), must be upheld throughout the life cycle of artificial intelligence systems.
