Submissions sought on the Uniform Rules
12/01/2015

The Legal Profession Uniform Law is expected to replace in mid-2015 the Legal Profession Act 2004 and the regulations and rules made under that Act. The Uniform Law aims to create a common legal services market across NSW and Victoria and harmonise regulatory obligations, while retaining local performance of regulatory functions.
The Legal Services Council, which is responsible for making rules under the Legal Profession Uniform Law, is seeking submissions from members of the legal profession and members of the public regarding the Uniform Rules.
The Bar Association has created a page on its website, containing background information and links to relevant documents, including the Australian Bar Association's Proposed Legal Profession Conduct Rules and the Proposed Continuing Professional Development Rules for barristers. Information about making a submission about the Conduct or CPD rules for barristers is contained on the Bar Association’s website at http://www.nswbar.asn.au/for-members/uniform-rules . The page also contains links to the website of the Legal Services Council and the Law Council of Australia (in relation to rules for solicitors).
Comments or submissions relating to the General Rules can be made to the Legal Services Council by email or post or by completing the online survey for legal practitioners. For further information and to access the General Rules visit the Council’s website at http://www.legalservicescouncil.org.au/
The closing date for comments and submissions on all rules is Friday, 16 January 2015. To learn more, or to make a submission, visit the Uniform Rules pages of the Bar Association or the Legal Services Council.
