Review of efficiency in criminal proceedings in England and Wales

Last week the president of the Queen’s Bench Division, the Rt Hon Sir Brian Leveson, published the findings of his review into the efficiency of criminal proceedings. Against the backdrop of austerity and budget cuts in the UK, the review examined a wide range of factors affecting the length and cost of criminal trials, such as the role of information technology, listing, pre-trial and early guilty pleas, flexibility in court sittings, expert evidence and more.
