NSW adult prison population continues to increase

The Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research today released its September 2016 Quarterly Update of NSW Custody Statistics. The Report indicates that the NSW adult prison population grew by 4.6 per cent between October 2015 and September 2016, reaching a new record high of 12,641 in September this year. This brings the total increase in the NSW adult prison population over the last two years to 21 per cent. In contrast, the number of juveniles in custody fell by 12 per cent over the last twelve months. See the Bureau's media release
