Australia to ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture

The Law Council has welcomed the Australian Government's announcement that it will ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT). The president of the Law Council, Fiona McLeod SC, said that OPCAT "will assist in preventing torture from occurring in any place of detention in Australia, as well as encouraging a culture of transparency and accountability".
