Volunteers wanted for the Kirby Cup High School Moot
12/08/2021

Mooting
The Kirby Cup High School Mooting Competition is on again in 2021. This prestigious mooting competition, conducted by Western Sydney University Law School, is specifically designed for year 10, 11 and 12 high school students who may aspire to a career in the law. It particularly supports students from high schools in the Greater Western Sydney area.
The Law School is seeking volunteers from the Bar to assist in judging the preliminary rounds of the competition on the mornings of Monday, 25 and Tuesday, 26 October 2021. Volunteers can assist on one morning, or both.
These preliminary rounds will be held at the University's Parramatta Campus or online if required by COVID-safety guidelines. The 2021 Moot question concerns issues of fitness to practise law and asks students to consider the question: What makes a good lawyer? Volunteers will be provided with a Benchbook that includes the Moot question, the relevant case law and legislation that the students have studied, as well as suggested questions to ask the competitors. Members of the Bar will also be assisted by high performing law students from Western Sydney Law School to adjudicate with them.
If you are interested in volunteering to assist, please contact Dr Sandra Noakes, Director of Academic Program, First Year, School of Law, Western Sydney University at s.noakes@westernsydney.edu.au.
