Senior Crown Prosecutor Role - NSW ODPP

The Attorney General is seeking applications from qualified persons for appointment as Senior Crown Prosecutor under the Crown Prosecutors Act 1986 for a fixed term that may be renewed.

$376,000 per annum plus conveyance allowance of $17,515 per annum.

The Senior Crown Prosecutor conducts proceedings and acts as independent Counsel on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions in the most significant trials and appeals in the Superior Courts in order to provide the highest level of representation. The Senior Crown Prosecutor is required to manage, lead and develop Crown Prosecutors and Deputy Senior Crown Prosecutors across the State of NSW and to provide advice and guidance on ethical matters. The Senior Crown Prosecutor also advises and assists Private Counsel briefed to prosecute.

The position holder also finds bills of indictment and advises the Director of Public Prosecutions on significant matters referred for advice. The Senior Crown Prosecutor is responsible for the allocation of Supreme Court trials and the briefing of special interest matters and oversees briefing generally.

The Senior Crown Prosecutor is responsible for managing and overseeing a large budget. Interested persons must be Australian lawyers. The key skills and knowledge required for the role is contained in the online role description and they must be addressed in the online application.
