Legal Assistance Referral Scheme - Expressions of Interest sought in response to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan

07/09/2021

The Legal Assistance Referral Scheme is seeking expressions of interest from barristers who wish to assist refugees who have recently fled or are attempting to flee Afghanistan.

The Association is currently engaged in discussions with other agencies that provide legal assistance to asylum seekers about a co-ordinated response to the crisis.

While the plans are still in formation as the situation continues to unfold, it is envisaged that the work will predominantly involve preparing humanitarian visa applications and personal statements on behalf of asylum seekers. Migration experience is highly desirable.

We would further like to receive expressions of interest from members who wish to be involved in further activities including specific advocacy efforts related to evacuation and Australia’s humanitarian intake.

Kindly email legalassist@nswbar.asn.au to submit an EOI or to request further information.
