Request for barristers to judge the Senior Mooting Competition at UNSW

27/05/2022

Mooting

The Allens Linklaters Senior Mooting Competition is open to law students in their third year or above at UNSW. The Competition Directors are requesting the assistance of barristers to volunteer as judges in Round 2 of the competition, to be held between 13–24 June 2022.

Moots may be held online or in-person at the UNSW Kensington Campus (or in your chambers/office if you prefer). Moots can be arranged to commence at 6.00pm, 6.30pm or 7.00pm and typically run for between 90 mins to 2 hours.

The success of the Competition depends on the generosity of experienced advocates. Your time would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested, use this link and please fill out this very short registration form by Wednesday, 1 June 2022.

Moot judging is a valuable way to support budding advocates and to foster connections between emerging lawyers and the Bar. It also provides an opportunity for barrister judges to obtain CPD units. To emphasise this point, the Wellbeing Committee organised a CPD webinar titled The Benefits of Judging Moots, to provide an overview of the moot competitions that the NSW Bar assists with and what is involved in judging a moot. A panel of mooters, former mooters and experienced moot judges provided practical tips for judging moots and supporting mooters' advocacy skills.
