New editor for the NSW Law Reports
07/06/2022

The Council of Law Reporting for NSW is pleased to announce the appointment of Perry Herzfeld SC as the new editor of the NSW Law Reports, consequent upon the previous editor, Dr Elisabeth Peden SC, being appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of NSW.
Mr Herzfeld was appointed senior counsel in 2020; he has a broad practice at first instance and appellate levels and is co-author of the highly-praised Interpretation which covers all aspects of interpretation in Australian law.
As editor he will continue to be assisted by the assistant editors — Professor David Rolph from Sydney University, retired NSW Supreme Court judge the Hon Reginald Barrett, and Miiko Kumar, Crown prosecutor at Parramatta.
Mr Herzfeld said: "I am thrilled and honoured to be appointed as editor. I have big shoes to fill. But I am confident that, in collaboration with the Council, editorial team and reporters, we can continue the long tradition of producing high quality authorised law reports for New South Wales."
The Council’s chairperson, Sophie Callan SC, congratulated Mr Herzfeld on his appointment. She said: "Herzfeld brings a keen legal mind and energetic approach to the responsibility of selecting cases for publication in the NSW Law Reports. I am confident that as editor, he will maintain and advance the prestige and value of these authorised reports to the judiciary, practitioners and academics."
