Webinar - 20 July 2022

The Inquests and Inquiries Committee are delighted to host the Hon Peter Hall QC, the Chief Commissioner of the NSW ICAC, Tim Hale SC and Scott Robertson tonight Wednesday, 20 July, for a session on ‘the role and aims of the NSW ICAC and issues for barristers appearing before ICAC'.

Broad-based integrity commissions such as the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption exist in every State and self-governing Territory in Australia and may shortly exist on a federal level. The proceedings of those agencies raise special challenges for barristers who are briefed to advise or appear for persons affected by an investigation.

This seminar will address the role and aims of the NSW ICAC and the issues and challenges faced by barristers advising or appearing for persons affected by an investigation by the Commission. Those matters will be addressed from three different perspectives: first, from the perspective of a Commissioner (Hon Peter Hall QC, the Chief Commissioner of the NSW ICAC); secondly, from the perspective of a barrister who has advised and appeared for several persons affected by the Commission’s investigations over the course of its history (Tim Hale SC); thirdly, from the perspective of a barrister who has acted as counsel assisting the ICAC in relation to several recent public inquiries (Scott Robertson).

Participants are encouraged to submit questions in advance. Questions can be submitted at the time of registration or via email to cpd@nswbar.asn.au.
