Last night both Arthur Moses SC and Shane Prince SC slept outside underneath the stars with only cardboard boxes to protect them from the cold night air. It was part of the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, in which leading business people and professionals raise awareness of homelessness. In only a few days of fundraising, Arthur and Shane have raised the remarkable sum of $28,000.

Sleep deprived Shane Prince SC told us:

It was a humbling experience to hear from those who have faced so much adversity and were willing to share their stories. It is so important to help people before their lives spiral out of control and Vinnies do a great job at this. One night of trying to sleep on the hard ground makes you realise how urgent it is to make sure no one deserves to go without sleeping in a warm bed in a safe place.

Arthur Moses SC followed with:

My thanks to all who donated to the St Vincent de Paul Society’s raising of funds for its projects to assist the homeless. This was my seventh Vinnies sleep out representing the NSW Bar Association. The sleep out aims to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless and to raise funds for the important work that Vinnies undertakes to assist the homeless. I was joined this year by Shane Prince SC for his first sleep out, who also used his network to raise funds.

Regrettably, every winter we see homeless people, increasingly more women, sleeping in the area around the legal precinct. My colleagues at the NSW Bar, solicitors, the NSW judiciary and business leaders are always incredibly supportive as I ask/harass them for donations at this time of the year for this worthy cause. They have big hearts.

The Wellbeing Committee, NSWBA, Shane and Arthur would like to thank all members for their donations to date, however, there is still time to donate. If you would like to make a donation, please click here for Arthur and Shane's donation pages.
