2022 Forbes Lecture (fresh date) and other events

The Forbes Society is pleased to advise dates for two postponed events:

On Tuesday 9 August at 5.15pm the rescheduled legal history tutorial 'The Mason Court' by Professor Barbara McDonald, Dr Ben Chen and Dr Jeffrey Gordon (University of Sydney Law School) in Court 13A (in person). No registration is necessary for in person attendance, but the Court’s Covid regulations must be observed (mask wearing is required). The 2022 Forbes Lecture 'Legal Life Histories and the Creation of Legal Fields' by Dr Susan Bartie (University of Tasmania) - Wednesday, 31 August 2022 at 5.15pm in Court 13A (in person). The Society is grateful to Chief Justice Bell for use of Supreme Court facilities.

Members of the Francis Forbes Society who have not yet renewed for the 2022/2023 membership year are reminded to complete a renewal/application form available here. New member applications are welcomed. A renewal/application form should be returned to the address on the form or by email to membership@forbessociety.org.au.

The Society encourages and promotes research into Australian legal history via the Francis Forbes Fund. Projects supported by the Fund are detailed in the note here with further information about other forthcoming events, including:

  • Thursday 27 October 2022 – 2022 Plunkett Lecture by Dr Patrick Graham
