Tomorrow: Seminar on Updated BPGs for Clerks and Chambers’ Staff

07/09/2022

Practice Support

Clerks and chambers’ staff are invited to attend a seminar on the recently updated Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs).

The seminar will commence at 11.00am on Thursday, 8 September 2022 in the conference room at Martin Place Chambers (Level 32, 52 Martin Place), and will also be live-streamed via AVL. Please RSVP to the President of the NSW Barristers’ Clerks Association on paulwalker@13wentworth.com.au with your details, and whether you wish to attend in person or via AVL (you will be informed and provided an AVL link if capacity in the conference room is exhausted).

This seminar will be presented by Sera Mirzabegian SC (Co-Chair of the Association’s Diversity and Equality Committee), and other members of that Committee, who will explain:

  • the content of the updated BPGs;
  • why chambers are encouraged to adopt them; and
  • how to implement the BPGs, including setting up a grievance handling process for when a complaint of harassment, discrimination, etc. is made.

The presenters will also ensure sufficient time is allocated to respond to any questions from the audience.

As you are aware, chambers and floors have been encouraged to seek independent legal advice and commence internal consultation. Heads of Chambers have been asked to notify the NSW Bar Association, by 28 October 2022, as to whether their chambers has endorsed implementation of the updated BPGs.
