Tony McAvoy SC appointed to Referendum Working Group

Minister for Indigenous Australians, Linda Burney and Senator Patrick Dodson have appointed Tony McAvoy SC of Frederick Jordan Chambers to the Referendum Working Group and Referendum Engagement Group.

Tony McAvoy SC is the only practising lawyer appointed to the group and will bring significant experience to the committee. The group is comprised of First Nations people who hold roles and positions as spokespeople in a variety of interests. The scope of the group is to provide advice to the government on the timing of the referendum, the question to be put, and the engagement with the community.

Tony McAvoy SC is the chair of both the NSW Bar Association's First Nations committee and the Law Council of Australia's Indigenous Legal Issues committee.
