International Day of Older Persons
30/09/2022

1 October 2022 is the International Day of Older Persons. One of the purposes of the day is to draw attention to and challenge negative stereotypes and misconceptions about older persons and ageing, and to enable older persons to realise their potential.
The needs of older people are increasingly important to communities as the number of persons aged 65 or over in the world is projected to more than double over the next three decades.
As communities deal with the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on older people, the International Day of Older Persons is also an opportune moment for us to reflect on the needs of the older people in our lives and in our communities.
Further information about the International Day of Older Persons can be found on the United Nations website here.
