International Lesbian Day

07/10/2022

International Lesbian Day, held annually on 8 October, is a day to celebrate lesbian history, diversity, visibility, and culture. It is all-inclusive and a day to be shared by lesbians and allies of lesbian rights.

The first Australian event was held in October 1990, with the day believed to have begun in Australia or New Zealand. In recent years, lesbians have encouraged the community to get together and show support by donating to charities supporting lesbian women.

The Bar Association is committed to supporting a Bar that reflects and is inclusive of the diverse composition of Australia’s society. The Association’s LGBTQI Principles on Inclusiveness have been developed for the benefit of members and their Chambers/Floors.

For further information about inclusiveness for LGBTQI people, see the Association’s Supporting LGBTQI Inclusivity webpage and information from ACON on safety and inclusion.
