Changes to the Local Court

16/05/2025

The Chief Magistrate of the Local Court of NSW has today announced that all Small Claims Division matters are now heard by default by the Local Court Assessors.

This enables the Magistrates of the Court to focus on more complex General Division matters and matters within the Court's other Jurisdictions.

For the vast majority of cases, matters are case managed through the Online Court, although in circumstances where it is necessary, local Registries will continue to case manage these matters.

Most matters are heard via Audio Visual Link or telephone, although in-person appearances continue in John Maddison Tower for those parties who require that option. If parties in regional locations require an in-person appearance or have difficulty in using Audio Visual Link or telephone, they may contact the local Registry to make other arrangements.
