World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – 15 June 2023

15 June 2023 marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Designated by the United Nations General Assembly, this Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of and voice opposition to the abuse of older people in our community.

The Law Council of Australia has published a revised Best Practice Guide for Legal Practitioners in Relation to Elder Financial Abuse, setting out best practice measures for lawyers to identify and respond to the risk of elder financial abuse. The Law Council has also published for the assistance of lawyers a Best Practice Guide for Legal Practitioners on Assessing Mental Capacity.
