World Refugee Day – 20 June 2023

16/06/2023

The 20th of June is designated by the United Nations as ‘World Refugee Day’ and is observed around the world.

World Refugee Day is a day to honour refugees around the globe and to celebrate the strength, courage and bravery of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution.

First held on 20 June 2001 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, World Refugee Day is an occasion to build greater empathy and understanding for the plight of refugees and people seeking asylum and to recognise their resilience in rebuilding their lives.
