NSW Bar Football Club Match Report
03/08/2023

The hard days of Winter are when a football team discovers what it is made of – and, also, who it can, in a clutch situation, rely on. Today was one of those days for Bar FC.
Facing a very experienced Pendal squad, Bar FC was down in numbers to only 10 stalwarts, despite the call going out to a much larger player base. Undaunted, Bar FC took to the field with their usual gusto. The customary tactical brilliance of Coutinho led to attacking raids on the Pendal goal, with adept assistance from Rogers and Ionita, and from Connolly on his customary right wing. This led to a brilliant goal being scored by Morrison.
Sadly, the weight of possession told against the Bar. This was despite heroic defensive work being done, repeatedly, by Munro and Griscti, with Liu playing a vital roving role in midfield, as did White. Harris’ keeping was again a highlight, with some excellent positioning and athletic saves. Outnumbered and under siege from Pendal, the Bar went down, fighting, 3-1, in the cauldron that is the Domain Soccer League.
Today’s Bar FC stalwarts were: 1. Andy Munro 2. Alexander Ionita 3. Graham Connolly 4. Jeh Coutinho (C) 5. Hugh Morrison 6. Ivan Griscti 7. Jackson Rogers 8. Thomas Liu 9. Lachlan White 10. John Harris (K)
