Current issues in forensic evidence

This seminar will be chaired by Stephen Odgers SC and will consist of a short presentation from each speaker followed by panel discussion in relation to current issues in forensic evidence.

Topics will include the reliability of forensic evidence, the relationship between ss 78 and 79 of the Evidence Act, practical approaches to challenging proposed expert evidence under ss 79 and 137 of the Evidence Act 1995 (NSW), the dangers of unreliable expert evidence and the largely unrecognised problem of double-counting opinion evidence.

Join Justice Dina Yehia, Chris Maxwell KC and Professor Gary Edmond who will address areas such as voice identification, fingerprint, facial identification, shoe prints, medical and DNA evidence and opinions of police officers.
