Bar FC play ABC in wooden spoon showdown
31/08/2023

A strong and full Bar FC squad faced the bottom of the table ABC in a match that would determine the winner of the wooden spoon in this year’s DSL Competition.
Bar FC were given a handy lead in the first half with a well flighted corner by Coutinho finding the head of Hartford Davis on the back post. At 1-0 up, Bar FC had the balance of possession and kept attacking the ABC goal. ABC though kept chipping away and were rewarded by a goal to level the game 1-1. Further chances came to both teams in the second half and keeper Simon Philips (the better Harris) made two great saves to keep the score level. If the game was decided by corners, Bar FC would have won but alas the game finished 1-1 at the final whistle. The result meant that ABC are the winners of the wooden spoon in 2023.
Bar FC now have one further match next week in the DSL before turning its attention to the Tri-State Championship which will see the NSW Bar take on the bar teams from both Victoria and Queensland in Melbourne on Saturday 16 September 2023 after the Sports Law Conference. At this stage, a squad of 17 will be heading south in the hope of retaining the silverware for another year.
