Bisexual Awareness Week: 16 – 23 September 2023

14/09/2023

Bisexual Awareness Week or #BiWeek commenced on 16 September and culminates in Celebrate Bisexuality Day, on 23 September.

Bisexuality Day is an annual event to recognise and celebrate bisexual people, the bisexual community, and the history of bisexuality. ‘Bisexual’ refers to an individual who is sexually and/or romantically attracted to people of the same gender and people of another gender.

Bisexuality is represented by the flag (shown in the image) with pink at the top representing homosexuality, blue at the base representing heterosexuality, and purple between the two, being a blend of the two colours which represents bisexuality.

The Bar Association is committed to supporting and celebrating its diverse Bar which strives to reflect a full composition of Australia’s society, including people from the bisexual community. The Association’s LGBTQI Principles on Inclusiveness have been developed for the benefit of members and their Chambers/Floors.

For further information about inclusiveness for LGBTQI people, see the Association’s Supporting LGBTQI Inclusivity webpage and information from ACON on safety and inclusion.
