International Equal Pay Day
14/09/2023

The United Nations International Equal Pay Day is celebrated on 18 September each year in support of equal pay for work of equal value.
Women are paid less than men by an estimated 20 per cent globally. The United Nations reports that: • women earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn for work of equal value; • at the current rate, it will take 257 years to close the global gender pay gap; and • women carry out at least 2½ times more unpaid household and care work than men.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals include the achievement of equal pay for work of equal value by 2030, as well as the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
