The Entangled Complexity of Statute Law and Judge-Made Law

The UNSW School of Private and Commercial law invites members to attend the first in a series of seminars concerning Private and Commercial Law on Thursday, 19 October 2023 with guest speaker the Hon Justice Mark Leeming, Judge of Appeal, Supreme Court of New South Wales. The seminar will be held in-person at the UNSW CBD Campus (Level 6/1 O'Connell Street, Sydney) on 19 October 2023. Justice Leeming's talk will take place from 5.00-6.00pm, with drinks and nibbles served afterwards.

This presentation will explore the interaction between judge-made law and statute law, which occurs daily in legal reasoning and argument and judgments, often without a conscious appreciation of the complexity and nuance which is involved.
